Held in the bustling Broadbeach precinct and located just steps away from the iconic Gold Coast beachfront, we’re committed to celebrating, respecting and maintaining the beauty of Broadbeach before, during and after the festival each year. For us, keeping the environment clean and thriving is just like listening to some sweet country tunes. It’s healing, joyful and part of who we are!
In 2023, we’re proud to say that with the help of our festival attendees and our Community Partner Clean Vibes, more than 75% of all waste generated at the festival was diverted from landfill, with over 29m³ of rubbish set to be recycled or repurposed. On top of this, more than 8,000 cans and bottles were recycled – this is all music to our ears!
Below is a snapshot of what else our Groundwater Country Music Festival team are doing to ensure we support and love our environment now and for many years to come.
First step to minimising waste is to reuse as much as possible! Branded materials such as scrim, bunting and flags aren’t year specific so they can be used again and again, and across multiple festivals!
Whether it’s food and market vendors, artists or even behind the scenes staff like photographers, we aim to engage local suppliers first and foremost to help reduce travel emissions. We also love to support our local talent and economy.
Festival attendees are encouraged to travel to the festival via active travel methods or public transports to help reduce emissions. This also helps reduce traffic in the local area, plus with bus and tram stops just metres away from festival stages, getting to a festival has never been this easy!
We encourage BYOB (bring your own bottle) and have refillable water stations throughout the festival precinct. For single-use cups and bottles, there’ll be plenty of recycling bins offered by our friends at Clean Vibes to help ensure they’re disposed of properly to reduce landfill waste.
Whether it’s advertising, reaching out to artists or contacting local businesses, we opt for digital communication to reduce printing outputs. A brand new festival app is also developed each year to reduce the need for printed festival programs.
As the environment changes year on year, we know that we should as well. Our team are always eager to improve and are keen to hear from you. Environmentally oriented questions are included within post-event surveys so that our team can continuously learn and understand how we can do better.
