Suga Owens

Set times

Suga Owens grew up with a colourful and traditional musically gifted family.

As Scottie grew up his parent’s collection of early rock ‘n’ roll and country records were very influential. It was during a family trip around Australia he and his brothers started to learn guitar. The boys loved to experiment with new sounds but would always go back to their roots with country music and early rock ‘n’ roll. Playing covers in pubs, the boy’s band caught the eye of Graeme Connors. He took the time to mentor them to polish their songwriting and stage performance skills making a very strong impression in Scottie’s life which continues in his music today. Fifties-style rock ‘n’ roll, bluegrass and country was the flavour that got his creative juices flowing, so he and his brothers got stuck into it and started a band called The Hi-Boys. In addition to building a loyal fan base in Australia, The Hi-Boys performed at festivals in Europe and UK, and have signed with record label Wild Records based in LA.

After all the successes of the Hi-Boys, it’s now time for Suga to shine on his own. Scottie released his first single under the name Suga Owens in April 2018 and has an EP to follow. He has performed to solid crowds at various Australian venues, events and festivals. Suga Owens has already made a footprint in the Country music scene in Australia with his first single placed in the Top 10 on Australian country radio upon release. His songwriting is inspired by American country music mixed with an Australian twist, it’s original, entertaining and is bound to get your toes tapping. Suga is one not to be missed at Groundwater CMF, 12-14 November 2021!
