Joining the Groundwater CMF lineup in 2022 for the very first time is Australian Indie Folk duo, Freight Train Foxes.
Built around the talents of Brisbane singer/songwriters, Pat Kenny, and Kelsey Berrington, and armed with the sonic influences of Passenger and Stu Larsen, the pair wield their unique brand of suburban acoustic folk that manages to both wound and soothe simultaneously. Kenny was an Army Officer before making an abrupt switch to songwriting, while Berrington had a background as a circus performer before transitioning to music full-time.
The songwriting partnership emerged from a chance encounter and continued to develop out of a mutual admiration for their shared songwriting heroes. After releasing three EPs in three years, and amassing over half a million streams on Spotify, the Indie Folk duo continue to impress audiences with stirring performances throughout Australia, including shows at The Gympie Muster and Tamworth Country Music Festival. Recently, their nostalgia inspired single 'Cardboard Satellites' has been nominated for a 2022 Queensland Music Award while their anthemic folk track landed a 'Highly Commended' award in the 'Regional/Remote' category, as the band's string of successes continues to mount.
